As perfect as they may look , conventionally grown flowers come with some bad news. It may be surprising to learn that flowers are the most pesticide-intensive crop in the world. About 60% of the flowers available in the US are imported, and because flowers are not eaten (typically) the level of pesticide residue on the blooms is not regulated. Customs agents, however, are concerned about invasive pests so there is an incentive for foreign growers to heavily spray their flowers and even the boxes they ship them in.
